Theatre Photographer - Backstage

...Translating a story told on stage into photographs is difficult, no question.

But in order to be able to communicate a story, and the narrative of the piece I believe you must understand what it is you're photographing fully, in order to translate live action into a still image.

It was photographing my own stage and lighting designs that lead me to pursue this career path, but understanding all of the elements required in theatre, are an invaluable asset. By having a deeper understanding and experience helps me take better, stronger more striking images.

I'd like to think I posses more knowledge than other theatre photographers out there owing to my experience of working within professional theatres across the country, and Europe.

A list of jobs, roles and responsibilities I've undertaken are:

To photograph something properly, I believe that first, you must fully understand it...

These experiences enable me to work more creatively, closely and safely to deliver beautiful imagery.

As a professional theatre photographer, I have had the privilege of capturing many of the amazing productions that companies around the UK have to produced. From West End to Educational Institutions - every job is met with the same level of professionalism, expertise and desire to create inspiring, bold visuals to represent your production.

Experience is of paramount importance, and having worked in theatres since the age of 12 - I have over two decades experience in almost all aspects of theatrical production. I began reportage photography from a young age in the theatre born out of passion, but when working as a theatre designer, the passion became necessity.

Understanding the crafts involved on both sides of the stage, gives me the edge over other photographers as I am able to anticipate the actions, producing imagery of the highest quality, whilst staying true to the design principles created by the production team. Having worked as a lighting designer on hundreds of productions, certainly improves this edge!

In 2018, I left a career in Theatre Education to become a full time specialist theatre photographer. I offer all aspects of theatre photography; from rehearsal photographs, marketing and press imagery to commercial work. This includes actors headshots and portrait photography in London.

Whilst I am London-based, I frequently shoot throughout the UK and have also been fortunate to be commissioned internationally - so travelling is certainly not a problem.

If you would like to check my availability for an upcoming production, or would like some more information or to see some more of my work in a specific field, please do not hesitate to get in touch.

Please supply me with a brief outline of what you would like, and I will endeavour to get back to you at the earliest opportunity.
